Be My Valentine?

Happy Saint Valentine’s Day!

I made this strip earlier in the year when I needed to go to the city for the start of a root canal. Ouch! I have never minded the dentist but the long trip from my home to the dental hospital plays havoc with the symptoms of my illness. It is the ramifications of the journey that I dread. Having said that, I make sure to drive in early and park close to the Flinders Street photobooth. That means I haven’t far to walk with my box of props, to take a few strips before heading off to the appointment.

I didn’t much like the results of my Valentine themed pics this year, so chose just one of the nine photos I took, to feature in this post. I thought I might as well show you the full strip it came from, as it was already scanned. What do you think?

    Happy Valentine’s. Hope you are doing better. 🙂
    I’m still having issues with WordPress/Firefox. As a consequence, I can not always interact with a blogger’s post. Comments work 99.995%, but the like button won’t respond. It is a strange problem.
    I’ve being creating asemic snapshots – playing with the codes & conventions of a traditional photo/snap. You may find them of interest.

    • Thanks Kelly. 😊 That is a fine compliment! I used florist wire taped to some cardboard hearts to make them stay in my hair. It was a fun little craft project. ❤️🌹

    Yeah, they are good. Imagine, in 100 years time when some collector of photobooth pictures finds them, what will they think?!

    • Given how many I take they will probably give a posthumous certificate of crazy 😜! 😅. Thanks for the compliment, Tony. ❤️🌹

  7. I think they’re great! That you did it before your appointment with the dentist put me in mind of troops popping into photo booths before they got shipped off to foreign shores. Putting a brave face on things for those back home, sort of thing. But I think I’d have liked a ‘before and after’ my root canal surgery approach, rather more

    • That is a great idea, Brian and it ain’t over yet! I could do a “brave face for the troops” before and a cartoon style toothache bandage on the head with a tooth missing smile for the after!

    Happy Valentines Day! I do like the photos but I realize sometimes we are our own worst critics. Have a good day.

  9. You can really be proud of your captivating personality.

    Sin of self-love possesseth all mine eye,
    And all my soul and all my every part;
    And for this sin there is no remedy,
    It is so grounded inward in my heart.
    Methinks no face so gracious is as mine,
    No shape so true, no truth of such account;
    And for myself mine own worth do define,
    As I all other in all worths surmount.
    But when my glass shows me myself indeed,
    Beated and chopp’d with tann’d antiquity,
    Mine own self-love quite contrary I read;
    Self so self-loving were iniquity.
    ‘Tis thee, myself, that for myself I praise,
    Painting my age with beauty of thy days.

    • Thanks? I’m not completely sure what the poem means even after reading a scholarly piece about it . . .

      • This sonnet may be a response to criticism of the three jealousy sonnets preceding, 58, 59, 61. Perhaps the poet had been accused by the youth of indulging in extremes of self-love, and this is the poet’s reply to the charge. In effect he acknowledges his guilt, admitting that he is indeed absorbed in a narcissistic orgy of self admiration, but he gives an ingenious twist to the ending by the discovery that his self-love is in fact love of the youth. This is yet another example of the theme of the oneness of lovers and the intertwining of hearts, here put to good use in the poet’s defence of his excessive jealousy and self-preoccupation.
