Raymond Parker – August 1966 to April 1973

13 August 1966, 20 August 1966, 29 October 1966, 13 November 1966

I was thrilled with the comments the previous post received. I’m happy to be able to add more photos to this series, as wished for by Roberta M (please visit her blog) and others. This is the busiest phase of the series, with there being some photos as close together as a week, yet as far apart as almost five years.

11 March 1967, 8 April 1967, 13 May 1967, 3 June 1967

Ray is a cheeky, cutie, don’t you think? My favourite strip is the one, below, where he has had a fight with a lawn mower, yet is still happy to show off the results.

22 July 1967, 5 August 1967, 1 June 1968, 17 April 1973

This is the last time we see Ray’s father. He is still hiding there, in the background. Ray changes a lot in the last two strips, but why the long time between sittings? Were some photos lost? Perhaps, but one may surmise that around the age of eight, Ray had had enough of being photographed for his dad’s amusement and point blank refused to cooperate any longer. Or maybe they moved house and were no longer in close proximity to a booth? Whatever the case, with a leap in his growth and maturity, after five years, Ray restarted his father’s project alone.

    • Something really weird going on with WordPress these past few days! initially I was having trouble with the app quitting randomly. Then I couldn’t reply to comments. I left that weird ramble on your latest blog post then came back here to see if I could work out if something had gone awry on the dashboard, but the post had gone (I double checked on the blog home page – nothing!). The post was back in the drafts folder, opened on a previous version and yet still had yours and Ted’s comments. I was able to find the finished version in one of the Revisions files and was able to republish from there. And the comments remained, I’m pleased to say. Sheesh! What a palaver!

      • Shayne also noticed and commented, “I can see the “Cub Scout” wording on a patch on his shirt in the first groups of photos. Pretty sure that’s what it says. In the third group I can see “B.S.A” on his shirt so maybe he’d graduated to Boy Scouts by then. Also the logo on the cap looks like a Boy Scouts or Cub Scout logo but it’s not easy to see. Probably there wasn’t much contrast in the colors used so it sort of blends together. Maybe someone more familiar with the logo and insignia will post a comment. He looks like a very happy kid!”

  1. Cute Cub Scout, he turned into a handsome young man. His father must be related to you having caught that infectious ‘photoboothitis’.

    • Going to cut and paste from a reply to Shayne. Further to my Messenger message, something really weird is going on with WordPress these past few days! Initially I was having trouble with the app quitting randomly. Then I couldn’t reply to comments. I tried using the desk top computer and still couldn’t reply to comments on this post. I then tried to see if I could work out if something had gone awry on the dashboard, but the post had gone (I double checked on the blog home page – nothing!). The post was back in the drafts folder, opened on a previous version (half done) and yet still had yours and Shayne’s comments. I was able to find the finished version in one of the Revisions files and was able to republish from there. And the comments remained, I’m pleased to say. Sheesh! What a palaver!

So which one is the Cub Scout one? The one where he is on his Fa’s lap? I thought the crest might be from a school . . .

Thank you for more! If he has children now, I hope he is also being creative with capturing annual photos!

    • I would hope so, too but the fact these photos ended up on EBay, when he would only be in his late 50s makes me worry for him. I hope the link to your blog leads a few people to you. I love you paintings. The recent sunset one was superb.
