22 January 1998, Chadstone Shopping Centre, Melbourne

A quick strip of photobooth photos after a trip to the cinema to see The Spice Girls‘ movie Spice World. I guess it was the only film we could all agree to see, as I was never a fan of that group.

This strip is part of the series Photobooth 41 Year Project. You can see all the posts that document the series by clicking here.

This is an unusual polaroid photobooth set. It isn’t in the greatest of conditions but due to its rarity it is worth documenting.

I am not sure if polaroid photobooths still exist. They were certainly never common. This photo is from the USA and has no identifying information. I guess it dates from the 1990s.

This strip was taken on the way to see a movie in Melbourne’s city centre. It was The Devil’s Advocate with Al Pacino. I hated it.

The one that got away.

The one that I bought.

This wonderful young woman, Drene, appeared in numerous photos that were recently for sale on Ebay. I tried, to the extremes of my finances, to get the top photo, but missed out. I was luckier for number two.

Isn’t she a 60s Goth-Girl stunner? Did they even have Goths back then? I often look back on my youthful conservative style and wish I had had more courage to be different. This girl had no such inhibitions.

The photo I bought has “To Adele love Drene 1/11/1964” written on the back. It comes from the USA.

Rather than not include the many photos I have with people with whom I am no longer in touch and who I feel may be sensitive, I have decided to pixelate some faces. I wish to stay true to making this blog a document of the complete series by including all the photos, but without causing any offence.

For those of you who are new here, I took my first photobooth photo in 1973 at the age of 11 and have been continuing the series, on and off, since then. Read more about this project here, or click on the link above, Photobooth 41 Year Project.

Great faces on these two, eh? They must have been great friends to squeeze into a booth together. I wonder if they made the strip for their wives whilst on a trip to the city? They certainly look like country blokes.

This photo comes from the USA and is undated.

I am never sure whether to count this type of booth photo as part of my chronological series as it isn’t of the same aesthetic and detail of the photos from the wonderful chemical booths. However as the old-time booths are more and more rare, and digital booths are easier to get access to, I decided to add this to the group as an early example of where booth photos were heading at this time.

I recently wrote a post about a party for my friend Marie-Louise, that I was excited to be going to. One of my readers recognised her as an actor, so I have decided to show you this more recent, professional photo. It comes from her profile at the agency that represents her.

Her full name is Marie-Louise Walker and her IMDb page is here.

Still stunning Mar-Lou!

This is the original photobooth photo of my fabulously gorgeous friend, that I posted on 7 December.  It was taken in a Melbourne photobooth in 1996.

I was thrilled to find that my blog has been mentioned at another online magazine, Lomography.com. The post was written by soundfoodaround.

After reading the post 365 Days, 52 Weeks from WordPress’s own blog, I felt inspired to get back to
my personal chronology of booth photos, which was the inspiration for my starting this blog in 2011. I will endeavour to add at least one strip of photos from the series each week for the 52 weeks of 2013. So with that in mind, I start the year with the next in the series, below.

Happy New Year to you all. I hope 2013 is inspirational and fun for us all.

This strip was taken at a Melbourne train station, after I had been to visit my friend Liarne. I went to stay with her at a house she was renting at the seaside town of Torquay, where she still lives.
