Soon after Hawkeye went to doggy heaven, I was offered another puppy to train.

Adam had begun his journey towards being a guide dog in Tasmania, but due to changes in that state’s dealings with the guide dog association, he was repatriated to his home in Victoria where he continued his work with me.

Adam came for his first photobooth photo shoot within days of arriving at my place. He was 11 months old in this first strip.

I feel very lucky to have such a kind sister who, without even wanting to be reminded of the details of this strip of photos, was very happy to give her permission for it to be published.

This day was the day we finally found and purchased a fabulous red linen dress for me to wear as bridesmaid at Sue’s forthcoming wedding. It took us four shopping trips to find it. It was utter torture for me, apart from having had the company of my gorgeous sis to make it bearable.

When these were taken, Sue was 6 months pregnant with her first child, my gorgeous nephew, Calvin.

14 January 1999, Southland, Melbourne

I took this strip of photos when I was at Southland shopping centre to look for a bridesmaid dress for my sister’s wedding. It was the third or fourth attempt to find something we both liked and yet it was once again unsuccessful.

I don’t much like shopping for clothes at the best of times. I think my attitude to my task is abundantly evident in these pictures.

Another strip of me and my sister Susan, this time before seeing the movie Saving Private Ryan. Sue was pregnant in this picture. We shall see more of my sister and the manifestation of this state in a future post.

My travelling companion, Moana, was visiting from the UK. My sister Sue, was temporarily living back in Australia, after a few years in Ireland. What better way to celebrate a reunion than with icecreams and a photobooth session?

These photos were taken on the way to Melbourne airport. I flew to New Zealand for a cycling tour of the northern tip of the North Island. Whilst there, I also visited multiple relatives.

I was already beginning to feel some of the effects of the neurological condition Myalgic Encephalomyelitis from which I suffer. Tiring easily, headaches and muscle pain, are some of the symptoms. The problems were mild at this time, so I was still able to carry on a normal life.

This is Hawkeye, my first trainee guide dog puppy. He was offered to me when I was a volunteer puppy-raiser, after he had made an “escape bid” from the Guide Dog Association’s kennels where he was born. It was such a drama that the fire brigade had to be called, resulting in a news article in The Sunday Age newspaper, below.

He was a precious little pup who worked very hard towards his goal of becoming a working guide dog but unfortunately that was not to be. More of his story to come.

My sister Sue and I after seeing the wonderful movie, The Truman Show. I love this strip of photos due to the great expressions on my Subie’s face.

It must have been too hot for me in the theatre, as unusually for me, I have my hair tied back.
