On My Way to Torquay – April 1997

April 1997, Spencer Street Station, Melbourne

I was on my way to visit my friend Liarne at the surfing hub of Victoria, Torquay and guess what? I found a photobooth. Aren’t you surprised? Liarne had recently moved from Melbourne to the Surf Coast with her hubby and baby daughter.

Whilst getting my business off the ground, I had helped Liarne in her fledgling ceramics business. At the time we were both suffering very similar health problems. “Corker” as she is affectionately known, was diagnosed with ME about 3 years before I was. The symptoms started around the same time for us both. We were close friends and spent many hours per week together. The theory that ME may be caused by a viral infection, could be the link between our both suffering the same cursed condition. I am sure we shared a lot of germs with each other!

These pics were taken at what is now known as Southern Cross railway station in Melbourne, while waiting for my train to the beach.

Thinking about you on this final day of 2018. The new year has already begun for you, while I still have 12 more hours to go. There are days when time seems to slow down…. Seeing these older photos of you makes me think back to earlier times in my own life, to times which weren’t necessarily happy, but which I remember fondly. It’s no exaggeration to say that you bring much joy to the world, Kate! Brad ❤️
