About A Boy – June 1958
This is the first of a set of eight photobooth strips from the United States. Each of the strips is dated on the front and back. Unfortunately there are no other details recorded.
I imagine this cheeky and handsome young man to be 8 or 9 in this strip, making him around 14 or 15 in the last of them. As you will see as this series progresses, he is not afraid to play the fool in front of the camera, more so in some of the strips than others.
As I have said before, I love a sequence of photobooth photos that show the changes in a person from one year to the next. Booth photos are particularly well suited to watching someone as they grow up or grow older, due to their main focus being on head and shoulders. It is part of the reason I love them so much.
They’re wonderful moments in time, aren’t they?

Boys are so different than girls, little Bart Simpsons some of us. I never did anything rotten when I was that age.
Except put dog poo in a bag and light it up on the neighbors front porch. Yeah, there’s more…

I should hope there is more. If you can’t be wicked at that age, when can you? Where did the dog poo lighted bag idea originate? You are not the first to have done that in the USA. Wasn’t heard of here when I was a kid.

Again we have this window into a life that leaves so many unanswered questions trying to peek in past the frame.

And the more images I have of my “friends” the more I feel I know them and feel sad about the lost histories.

I love this idea for a series. One of the best things about photobooth photos is that the subject is usually not overly self-conscious, and nowhere is this more evident than in photos of kids; they’re just natural comedians. Looking forward to seeing the rest.

Yes, natural comedians. Had never thought of it that way! As he gets older he becomes more sedate, sadly. but some nice pics to come nevertheless

This young fellow doesn’t take his parents’ idea about the photo chronicle too seriously 🙂 . Isn’t he cute. Hope he is in his 60s now, still enjoying his life.
