Triptych taken in July 2013 for an exhibition that sadly never happened.

Merry X-mas and O-mas, Merry Kisses and Hugs to everyone who has supported my blog, and supported me during this time of ill health.

Thanks for the comments you left on my last post (as yet un answered, but greatly appreciated). I hope to be able to do some regular writing next year. I have lots of wonderful items to share with you.

Seasons Greetings to all, both long-time followers, new followers and casual readers. Have fun!

Father Christmas and friends. A booth pic found online, with thanks to the original owner.

With best wishes, from Katherine.

Unfortunately after my sister Sue’s recent visit, I suffered a severe relapse of my illness (see About Me section above). I am unable to sit for more than 5 minutes at a time without dizzy spells, heart palpitations etc. Thus I need to take another break from my favourite thing, blogging.

I apologise that I will be unable to visit other blogs or get back to your messages and comments but hopefully in a week or two will be more up to the challenge.

Happy Blogging

Katherine

My sister and I in a booth during her last visit in July 2012

At the time of posting, my sister Susan will be about to get on a plane in Dublin, to fly to Melbourne to visit me, my Ma and my Pa. She will arrive tomorrow evening, at Australian Eastern Daylight Time of 9.00 pm and stay for two weeks.  HOORAY!!!! (Tap-dancing with joy, now!)

This strip of photos was taken at Flinders Street Station during Sue’s last visit when she came to see us with her husband and two kids. That is Penny, her daughter, peeking in for the last shot.

My Other Blog – Mugshots and Miscellaneous

For those of you who don’t know, I have another blog called Mugshots and Miscellaneous which concentrates on miscellaneous photographic items and ephemera from my personal collection. It also includes photos from my family’s archive.

I have sometimes added additional information and images related to people in my photobooth photos. For example the studio portrait of Vic Parks (above) was posted on Mugshots and Miscellaneous, here, on the same day I did a post about booth photos of Vic, (also above), here.

I also have a lot of additional and fabulous photos of Horton Spurr (above) that compliment his photobooth photos. The story about Horton and the booth photos are here and the studio and snapshot photos are here.

Today is one of the rare days when I have added a new post to Mugshots and Miscellaneous. Please check it out.

This is an interview I did with Akshay Bhoan for his photography blog Constellation Cafe. Akshay is a photographer based in New Delhi & Bombay who works on independent lifestyle and documentary photography projects. I feel very privileged to have been chosen to be featured on his wonderful site. He also has a professional portfolio at http://akshaybhoan.com which is well worth a long look.

Collection comes as a natural progression to creation. This is just the case with my friend, artist and blogger, Katherine Griffiths. She has been not only creating a personal series of photo booth pictures for years now but also archives and curates vintage and discarded photo booth pictures from around the world.

What I find very interesting about collecting vernacular (photo booth) photography is that everyone in this space has absolutely no control over the camera or the light. Yet the pictures we see are astoundingly unique, like fingerprints on paper. In a way these pictures collected by Katherine are the epitome of self portraiture, isolated from the world, the chaos cleared from the world with a clean flash and devoid of any photographers influence.

Today I speak to Katherine about her work and her collection.

Tell us a little about yourself.

I collect photographic images, mainly of people, mainly photobooth…

PHOTO-BOOTH LOVE

Carl & Paula WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge Kiss
The ‘KISS’ theme for the WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge was one not to miss, but this old photo-booth shot from me and ❤Wifey’s ‘courting’ days is more of a full-on Snog than a Kiss…what can I say we were a passionate couple back then.

…still are 🙂

Wonderful memories of my time in San Francisco with Anette.  RayKo Photo Center has a 75 year old photobooth that produces the most beautiful pictures.

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

4,329 films were submitted to the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. This blog had 15,000 views in 2012. If each view were a film, this blog would power 3 Film Festivals

Happy New Year Everyone!

La Joyeuse de Photographie has set up a booth at Bonton on rue de Grenelle, and it is fantastic and colorful. I was long overdue for a photobooth session, so this finally did the trick!

Next time I hope to bring some props like Olivia has on her blog, how fun would that be?

These magical machines will never get old.  Photoboothing is one of my favorite things to do.. it’s just one of those things. What’s that special thing that makes you smile?
